The SRA’s consultation on financial penalties has a number of potentially significant implications for both individual lawyers and law firms. In this Ten-Minute Talk, our Managing Partner, Clare Murray, Clare Murray, and Regulatory and Professional Discipline Partner, Andrew Pavlovic, discuss the following three key issues raised by the consultation:
- Are fines an appropriate way of sanctioning individuals found to have committed acts of sexual harassment?
- Should the SRA be able to fine firms and individuals up to £25,000 without involving the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal?
- What are the implications of the proposed increase to fining bands for law firms in accordance with their turnover?
A link to the consultation, which is open until 11 February 2022, can be found here.
